While spring can be seen by some as the real new year exciting feelings of change and radiance bringing blooming flowers, chirping birds and warmer days it’s also not uncommon to regress into feeling unmotivated or dreary. With all the rain & tornado warnings in my city it got me thinking what my perfect rainy day would be like, away from the bustling winds and gloomy clouds. Here are some rainy day activities and recommendations to help you recharge intentionally.

Books:

Wilder Girls by Rory Power is set at a secluded all girls school, this visually descriptive body horror novel depicts the quarintine after a mysterious parasitic plague inflicts strange mutations on the students and wildlife. The story follows Hetty as she breaks quarantine to find her missing friend and uncover truths. I found the usage of flowers to illustrate the grotesque mutations as an immersive way at blurring the lines between their environment and them becoming one with it, similar to The Last Of Us or Annihilation.

Yotusuba &! by Kiyohiko Azuma. This slice of life comedy manga follows the daily adventures of a five year old girl named Yotusba as she experiences the world through a wholesome and curious tone. Seeing other characters respond to her joy often adds to the reader’s experience as well. It’s an easy to read story with vibrant cover art.

Film:

My Neighbor Totoro another one of my spring favorites by Hayao Miyazaki symbolizes the coexistence between nature and humans. The film is about two young girls who move to the real country side of Japan with their father. There they encounter friendly, magical forest spirits most notably the large fluffy one named Totoro.

Fragrance:

When The Rain Stops Maison Margiela is said to evoke the joyful feeling of seeing the sun return after the rain. It has an aquatic accord, Isparta rose petal essence as well as patchouli. The replica line has truly some of the most high quality unisex perfumes I’ve ever used. They really have a fragrance that could match with every occasion/season.

Fairytale Bath And Bodyworks

although discontinued and periodically brought back is described as warm, airy, and fruity sent, with notes of pomegranate nectar, fresh orange blossom, vanilla, and warm nectar.
